Abstract
Although interpersonal communication skills have received increasing attention in educational research, studies specifically examining the effect of group guidance using the brainstorming technique on junior high school students remain limited. This study aims to analyze the effect of group guidance with the brainstorming technique on students’ interpersonal communication skills. A quantitative approach was employed using a preexperimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of six ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 18 Kota Serang in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an interpersonal communication skills questionnaire and analyzed using a paired-sample t-test. The results showed that the mean score of students’ interpersonal communication skills before and after the implementation of group guidance using the brainstorming technique was 62.8, with a t value of –20.180 and a significance level (p-value) < 0.05. These findings indicate that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, demonstrating a significant effect of group guidance using the brainstorming technique on students’ interpersonal communication skills. The study concludes that group guidance with the brainstorming technique plays an important role in improving students’ interpersonal communication skills in school settings. Therefore, school counselors are encouraged to implement brainstorming-based group guidance as an alternative intervention to enhance students’ active participation and social interaction. This study contributes theoretically to the development of guidance and counseling practices and provides practical implications for the implementation of group guidance services in schools.

| Additional Information: | Meskipun keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal telah menjadi perhatian dalam berbagai penelitian di bidang pendidikan, kajian yang secara khusus membahas pengaruh bimbingan kelompok dengan teknik brainstorming pada siswa sekolah menengah pertama masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh bimbingan kelompok teknik brainstorming terhadap keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain praeksperimen melalui model one-group pretest–posttest. Subjek penelitian berjumlah teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal dan dianalisis menggunakan uji t berpasangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata rata (mean) keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal siswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan layanan bimbingan kelompok dengan teknik brainstorming berada pada nilai 62,8, dengan hasil uji t sebesar –20,180 dan nilai signifikansi (p-value) < 0,05. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, sehingga terdapat pengaruh bimbingan kelompok teknik brainstorming terhadap keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal siswa. Simpulan penelitian menegaskan bahwa bimbingan kelompok dengan teknik brainstorming berperan penting dalam meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal siswa di lingkungan sekolah. Oleh karena itu, guru bimbingan dan konseling disarankan untuk mengimplementasikan teknik brainstorming sebagai alternatif layanan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi aktif dan kualitas interaksi sosial siswa. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi teoritis terhadap pengembangan layanan bimbingan dan konseling serta implikasi praktis bagi pelaksanaan layanan bimbingan kelompok di sekolah. | |||||||||
