Abstract

The increasing social pressures faced by young people, such as career demands, expectations surrounding marriage, and broader social and economic uncertainties, serve as the background of this study, which focuses on Hindia’s song “Bayangkan Jika Kita Tidak Menyerah” as a representation of Generation Z’s anxieties. This research aims to uncover the meaning of skepticism toward social pressure embedded in the song’s lyrics through a qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis, including the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that at the denotative level, the lyrics express an encouragement to persevere; at the connotative level, they reveal psychological burdens and doubts experienced by young people in facing societal expectations; and at the myth level, they critique modern cultural constructs that normalize competition and rigid standards of success. In conclusion, the song functions as a medium of expression and social critique, reflecting various forms of skepticism among young people toward contemporary social pressures.

Additional Information: Fenomena meningkatnya tekanan sosial pada generasi muda, seperti tuntutan karier, pernikahan, serta ketidakpastian sosial dan ekonomi, menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini yang berfokus pada lagu “Bayangkan Jika Kita Tidak Menyerah” karya Hindia sebagai representasi keresahan generasi Z. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna skeptisisme terhadap tekanan sosial yang terkandung dalam lirik lagu melalui pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes, mencakup tahap denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara denotatif lagu ini menggambarkan ajakan untuk tidak menyerah, secara konotatif menyoroti beban psikologis dan keraguan generasi muda terhadap ekspektasi sosial, dan pada tingkat mitos mengkritik budaya modern yang menormalisasi kompetisi serta standar keberhasilan yang menekan. Kesimpulannya, lagu ini berfungsi sebagai medium ekspresi dan kritik sosial yang merefleksikan bentuk-bentuk skeptisisme generasi muda terhadap tekanan kehidupan kontemporer.
