Abstract

Measurement of the main dimensions of the ship was conducted to determine the ratio of the major dimensions of vessel that can affect to the performance of the vessel. The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of the boat seine fishing vessel, to analyze the main dimensions ratio, and to analyze the relationship between the ratio with the seine size and engine power in Panjang Island and Karangantu Archipelagic Fishing Port. The method was used is survey. The results showed that the length, width, and breadth of the ship in Panjang Island and Karangantu Archipelagic Fishing Port have the same size relatively, but it use the different machines. The ships have large resistance and have a low speed. The longitudinal strength of the boats also low but it have good stability. The fisherman in Panjang Island use more length seine net than in Karangantu Archipelagic Fishing Port and causes the boat more easily broken. The vessel get heavier loads, but the larger of B/D make a good stability than in Karangantu. The ratio of the main dimensions of boat seine in Panjang Island have range value of L/B 3.29 to 3.83; range of L/D 11.42 to 21.06; and range of B/D 3.33 to 5.68. The main dimensions ratio of the boat seine in Karangantu Archipelagic Fishing Port have range value of L/B 3.49 to 3.81; range of L/D 12.19 to 15.05 and range of B/D 3.29 to 4.31.
