Abstract

Students' ability to write short stories is still challenging, as reflected in their lack of interest in writing activities and their writing skills that have not been developed to their full potential, so that the process of forming critical thinking patterns has not been optimal. This study aims to describe the impact of using digital comics and short films on improving short story writing skills in ninth-grade students at SMPN 14 Kota Serang. The research approach used is a quantitative-based experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. Sampling was conducted using simple random sampling, with class IX-A as the experimental group and class IX-B as the control group. Research data were collected through pretest and posttest results of short story writing skills, with assessment instruments covering aspects of content, idea organization, vocabulary selection, accuracy of language use, and mechanical elements of writing. The results showed that the use of digital comics resulted in a pretest average score of 55.56, which increased to a posttest average score of 81.24, with an increase of 25.68 points. Meanwhile, the use of short films obtained an average pretest score of 48.40, which increased in the posttest to 67.12, with an increase of 18.72 points. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of digital comics as a teaching medium is more effective in improving students' short story writing skills compared to the use of short films.

Additional Information: Kemampuan peserta didik dalam menyusun cerpen masih tergolong menantang, yang tercermin dari minimnya ketertarikan terhadap aktivitas menulis serta keterampilan menulis yang belum berkembang secara maksimal, sehingga proses pembentukan pola pikir kritis belum berlangsung secara optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dampak penggunaan media komik digital dan media film pendek terhadap peningkatan keterampilan menulis cerpen pada siswa kelas IX SMPN 14 Kota Serang. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen berbasis kuantitatif dengan rancangan pretest–posttest control group design. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan melalui teknik simple random sampling, dengan penetapan kelas IX-A sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelas IX-B sebagai kelompok kontrol. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui hasil tes awal dan tes akhir keterampilan menulis cerpen, dengan instrumen penilaian yang meliputi aspek isi tulisan, pengorganisasian gagasan, pemilihan kosakata, ketepatan penggunaan bahasa, serta unsur mekanik penulisan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan media komik digital menghasilkan nilai rata-rata pretest sebesar 55,56 dan meningkat pada nilai rata-rata posttest menjadi 81,24, dengan selisih peningkatan mencapai 25,68 poin. Sementara itu, penggunaan media film pendek memperoleh nilai rata-rata pretest sebesar 48,40 yang meningkat pada posttest menjadi 67,12, dengan kenaikan sebesar 18,72 poin. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa media komik digital memberikan pengaruh yang lebih dominan dibandingkan media film pendek dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis cerpen siswa. Maka keterampilan menulis cerpen akan lebih baik menggunakan media komik digital daripada media film pendek.
