Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Montessori Pompom media in improving fine motor skills of Grade VIII students with intellectual disabilities at SKh Elok Asri, Kota Serang. The study was motivated by the discovery of a student experiencing difficulties in coordinating fine motor movements such as holding and pinching objects, as well as the lack of appropriate learning media at the school. The method used is a quantitative approach with an experimental method employing a Single Subject Research (SSR) design in the A-B-A model. The subject of this study was a student with intellectual disabilities and fine motor development delays. Data were collected through direct observation, assessment, and the provision of interventions using Montessori Pompom media. Data were analyzed based on within-condition and between-condition analyses (trend direction, data level, stability, and overlap). The results showed an improvement in the student’s fine motor skills. In the baseline-1 (A1) phase, a stable percentage of 25% was obtained. During the intervention (B) phase, the percentage per session varied between 57%–73% with a mean level of 65. After the intervention was withdrawn, baseline-2 (A2) remained at 45%–52% with a mean level of 48.5. The between-condition analysis showed an overlap of 0% between B/A1 and 0% between A2/B, indicating a strong intervention effect. This study concludes that Montessori Pompom media is effective in improving fine motor skills of students with intellectual disabilities in Grade VIII at SKh Elok Asri, Kota Serang.
