Abstract
The goal of this study is to determine how the strategy applied in the English Club at SMAN 3 Kota Serang influences students’ self-confidence in speaking English. The research focuses on students’ experiences in participating in various English Club activities and how these activities help them overcome fear, anxiety, and hesitation when speaking English. A qualitative descriptive approach was used with seven participants, consisting of five active English Club members and two club advisors. The data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation to gain a deeper understanding of how students build confidence through English Club participation. The findings show collaborative learning conducted by the English Club creates a supportive and enjoyable environment that encourages students to speak without fear of making mistakes. Activities such as storytelling, games, discussions, and reflective peer sharing sessions help the students to express ideas more freely while improving their interaction and speaking fluency. Students also reported becoming more courageous, active, and comfortable when communicating in English, both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, support from peers and teachers played a key role in building their confidence and motivation to keep improving. Overall, the English Club at SMAN 3 Kota Serang serves as an effective platform for students to develop speaking confidence through engaging and collaborative learning experiences. | Additional Information: | Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan bagaimana strategi yang diterapkan di English Club di SMAN 3 Kota Serang mempengaruhi kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengalaman siswa dalam berpartisipasi dalam berbagai kegiatan English Club dan bagaimana kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut membantu mereka mengatasi rasa takut, kecemasan, dan keraguan saat berbicara bahasa Inggris. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan dengan tujuh peserta, terdiri dari lima anggota aktif Klub Bahasa Inggris dan dua penasihat klub. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi untuk memahami lebih dalam bagaimana siswa membangun kepercayaan diri melalui partisipasi dalam Klub Bahasa Inggris. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran kolaboratif yang dilakukan oleh Klub Bahasa Inggris menciptakan lingkungan yang dukungan dan menyenangkan yang mendorong siswa untuk berbicara tanpa takut membuat kesalahan. Aktivitas seperti bercerita, permainan, diskusi, dan sesi berbagi reflektif antar teman membantu siswa mengekspresikan ide dengan lebih bebas sambil meningkatkan interaksi dan kelancaran berbicara mereka. Siswa juga melaporkan menjadi lebih berani, aktif, dan nyaman saat berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris, baik di dalam maupun di luar kelas. Selain itu, dukungan dari teman sebaya dan guru memainkan peran kunci dalam membangun kepercayaan diri dan motivasi mereka untuk terus berkembang.
