Abstract

Practical learning in vocational high schools (SMK) requires students to not only master technical skills, but also possess 21st century skills, particularly critical thinking and collaboration. However, based on preliminary observations of lathe machining practical learning at SMK Negeri 1 Cilegon, problems were still found in the form of low student ability to analyze practical problems, evaluate work results, and work together effectively in groups. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of Project Based Learning (PjBL) on students' critical thinking and collaboration skills. This study uses a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative method uses simple linear regression analysis to test the effect of Project Based Learning on critical thinking and collaboration skills. The qualitative method is conducted through interviews and observations analyzed using NVivo software to deepen the quantitative results. The research subjects were students in the machining program, with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The quantitative results show that Project Based Learning has a positive and significant effect on students' critical thinking and collaboration skills, as indicated by a significance value of less than 0.05. Descriptive statistical analysis also shows that both skills are in the good category. Qualitatively, the NVivo coding results show that PjBL is able to develop critical thinking indicators that include analysis, evaluation, inference, creativity, and skills, as well as collaboration indicators that include positive interdependence, individual accountability, promotive interactions, interpersonal and small group skills, and group processing.

Additional Information: Pembelajaran praktik di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) menuntut siswa tidak hanya menguasai keterampilan teknis, tetapi juga memiliki keterampilan abad ke-21, khususnya keterampilan berpikir kritis (critical thinking) dan kolaborasi (collaboration). Namun, berdasarkan hasil observasi awal pada pembelajaran praktik pemesinan bubut di SMK Negeri 1 Cilegon, masih ditemukan permasalahan berupa rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menganalisis permasalahan praktik, mengevaluasi hasil kerja, serta bekerja sama secara efektif dalam kelompok. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh Project Based Learning (PjBL) terhadap keterampilan critical thinking dan collaboration siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan mixed methods dengan desain sekuensial eksplanatori, yaitu mengombinasikan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Metode kuantitatif menggunakan analisis regresi linear sederhana untuk menguji pengaruh Project Based Learning terhadap keterampilan critical thinking dan collaboration. Metode kualitatif dilakukan melalui wawancara dan observasi yang dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak NVivo untuk memperdalam hasil kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa program keahlian pemesinan, dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa angket, observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian secara kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwa Project Based Learning berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keterampilan critical thinking dan collaboration siswa, yang ditunjukkan oleh nilai signifikansi kurang dari 0,05. Analisis statistik deskriptif juga menunjukkan bahwa kedua keterampilan tersebut berada pada kategori baik. Secara kualitatif, hasil kodingan NVivo menunjukkan bahwa PjBL mampu mengembangkan indikator critical thinking yang meliputi analisis, evaluasi, inferensi, kreativitas, dan keterampilan, serta indikator collaboration yang mencakup positive interdependence, individual accountability, promotive interactions, interpersonal and small group skills, dan group processing.
