Abstract

The steel industry is one of the strategic sectors that plays an important role in supporting infrastructure development and the manufacturing sector. Steel profiles, such as angle steel, are widely used in building construction and various other structural applications due to their strength and stability. Therefore, the quality of steel profile products greatly determines the safety and reliability of the constructed structures. The production process of angle steel profiles is generally carried out through a rolling process or hot rolling, which aims to shape the steel in accordance with the required standards and specifications. However, dimensional defects are frequently found during this process, such as deviations in length, thickness, angle, and straightness, which cause the products to not meet the specified requirements. These defects can result in product rejection or even returns by customers, leading to decreased production efficiency and increased operational costs. PT Krakatau Baja Konstruksi is one of the national companies engaged in the production of construction steel, including angle steel profiles. The company operates rolling mill facilities used to manufacture various types of steel profiles. In order to improve productivity and product quality, it is necessary to analyze the causes of dimensional defects occurring in the rolling process and to identify appropriate solutions. Industrial Internship is one of the compulsory courses that must be undertaken by students of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (UNTIRTA). This internship aims to develop students’ soft skills, broaden their knowledge, and provide practical experience in identifying and analyzing dimensional defects that occur in angle steel profile products after the hot rolling process. Through this analysis, it is expected that the main causes of the defects can be identified and effective solutions can be proposed to minimize the occurrence of defects in the production process.
