Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving abilities of students, due to the use of teacher-centered mathematics teaching methods. A possible solution that can be applied to improve students' mathematical problem-solving abilities is the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) integrated with Polya’s model. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing CTL integrated with Polya’s model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities and to evaluate changes in these abilities. This study used a quasi-experimental study with a Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) Control Group design. This research was conducted at SMPN 18 Kota Tangerang in the 2025/2026 academic year, with two classes as the sample: class VIII.10 (32 students) as the experimental group and VIII.7 (30 students) as the control group. The experimental group received CTL integrated with Polya’s model, while the control group followed conventional learning. Data were analyzed through instrument testing, prerequisite testing (normality and homogeneity), and hypothesis testing using the t-test (Independent Sample T-Test). Based on the results of the study, it was found that the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who received Contextual Teaching and Learning integrated with Polya’s model were better than those of students taught using conventional learning. In addition, the improvement in mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who received Contextual Teaching and Learning integrated with Polya’s model was better than that of students in the conventional learning group.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa, yang salah satu penyebabnya adalah penggunaan metode pembelajaran matematika yang masih berpusat pada guru. Salah satu alternatif solusi yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa adalah menerapkan Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) terintegrasi model Polya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh penerapan CTL terintegrasi model Polya terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dan mengamati sejauh mana kemampuan tersebut mengalami perubahan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain The Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) Control Group Design. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 18 Kota Tangerang Tahun Ajaran 2025/2026, dengan sampel sebanyak 2 kelas yaitu kelas VIII.10 (32 siswa) sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VIII.7 (30 siswa) sebagai kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen menerima CTL terintegrasi model Polya, sedangkan kelas kontrol mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional. Teknik analisis data meliputi uji instrumen penelitian, uji prasyarat (normalitas dan homogenitas) serta uji hipotesis dengan menggunakan uji t (Independent Sample T-Test). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapatkan Contextual Teaching and Learning terintegrasi model Polya lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajarkan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran konvensional. Selain itu, peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapatkan Contextual Teaching and Learning terintegrasi model Polya lebih baik daripada siswa yang diajarkan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran konvensional.
