Abstract
Writing is a skill that some students still struggle with. Writing requires appropriate vocabulary and grammar to convey the intended meaning and purpose of the written text. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between mastery of Indonesian vocabulary and grammar and the narrative writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang. This study was a correlational study. The subjects were 66 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling. Data collection for Indonesian vocabulary and grammar used objective tests, while data collection for narrative writing used performance tests. The data analysis techniques used were product-moment correlation analysis and multiple correlation analysis with a 5% margin of error. The results of the study showed several things: (1) there is a significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and the ability to write narrative texts of class VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang, which is indicated by the results of calculated product moment vocabulary mastery of 0.587 which is greater than product moment table value which is 0.242 with a category of moderate correlation closeness; (2) there is a significant relationship between mastery of Indonesian grammar and the ability to write narrative texts of class VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang, which is indicated by the results of calculated product moment Indonesian grammar mastery of 0.661 which is greater than product moment table value which is 0.242 with a category of strong correlation closeness; (3) there is a significant relationship between mastery of vocabulary and Indonesian grammar together with the ability to write narrative texts of class VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang, which is indicated by the results of the statistical value of 36.463 which is greater than F table value of 3.14 and the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.522. | Additional Information: | Menulis merupakan kemampuan yang masih sulit dilakukan oleh sebagian siswa. Kemampuan menulis memerlukan kosakata dan tata bahasa yang sesuai agar tulisan dapat diketahui maksud dan tujuan yang ingin disampaikan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui ada atau tidak hubungan penguasaan kosakata dan tata bahasa Indonesia secara bersama-sama dengan kemampuan menulis teks naratif siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian korelasional. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang dengan sampel sebanyak 66 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan cluster sampling. Pengumpulan data kosakata dan tata bahasa Indonesia menggunakan tes objektif berbentuk pilihan ganda, sedangkan pengumpulan data menulis teks naratif dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes subjektif berbentuk tes menulis. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis korelasi product moment dan analisis korelasi ganda dengan tingkat taraf kesalahan sebesar 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan beberapa hal: (1) terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata dengan kemampuan menulis teks naratif siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang yang ditunjukkan dengan hasil rhitung penguasaan kosakata sebesar 0,587 lebih besar dari rtabel yaitu 0,242 dengan kategori keeratan korelasi sedang; (2) terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan tata bahasa Indonesia dengan kemampuan menulis teks naratif siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang yang ditunjukkan dengan hasil rhitung penguasaan tata bahasa Indonesia sebesar 0,661 lebih besar dari rtabel yaitu 0,242 dengan kategori keeratan korelasi kuat; (3) terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata dan tata bahasa Indonesia secara bersama-sama dengan kemampuan menulis teks naratif siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Serang yang ditunjukkan dengan hasil nilai statistik fhitung sebesar 36,463 lebih besar dari ftabel sebesar 3,14 dan koefisien determinasi (R2) sebesar 0,522.
