Abstract

Many junior high school students struggle with reading comprehension due to the limited use of teacher strategies. This study aims to analyze the teaching strategies used by English teachers and how students perceive these strategies in teaching reading at SMPN 15 Kota Serang. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires involving two English teachers and student from class 7F and 7H. The findings revealed that the English teacher in class 7F used Scafffolding and the QAR strategy, while the teacher in class 7H used Scaffolding and Reciprocal Teaching. Scaffolding supported students step by step, QAR improved their metacognitive skills, and Reciprocal Teaching encouraged collaboration and communication. Students responded positively, showing better engagement and understanding of the texts. Combining Scaffolding with either QAR or Reciprocal Teaching proved that students understand reading text better.

Additional Information: Banyak siswa SMP mengalami kesulitan dalam pemahaman membaca akibat penggunaan strategi pengajaran guru yang terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi pengajaran yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris dan bagaimana siswa memandang strategi-strategi tersebut dalam pengajaran membaca di SMPN 15 Kota Serang. Menggunakan metode studi kasus kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner yang melibatkan dua guru Bahasa Inggris dan siswa dari kelas 7F dan 7H. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris di kelas 7F menggunakan strategi Scaffolding dan QAR, sedangkan guru di kelas 7H menggunakan Scaffolding dan Reciprocal Teaching. Scaffolding mendukung siswa secara bertahap, QAR meningkatkan keterampilan metakognitif mereka, dan Reciprocal Teaching mendorong kolaborasi dan komunikasi. Siswa merespons secara positif, menunjukkan keterlibatan dan pemahaman yang lebih baik terhadapteks. Kombinasi Scaffolding dengan QAR atau Reciprocal Teaching membuktikanbahwa siswa memahami teks bacaan dengan lebih baik.
