Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the questioning strategies employed by tenth-grade English teachers in classroom instruction, with the goal of understanding their impact on student engagement, comprehension, and critical thinking development. Implementing a descriptive qualitative methodology, data were gathered through classroom observations and interviews held with the English teacher. The analysis focused on identifying the specific questioning techniques used and exploring the motivations behind their application throughout the educational process. The findings indicated that the teacher predominantly employed two categories of questioning strategies: Question-Planning Strategies and Question-Controlling Strategies. The rationale for utilizing these strategies included assessing students’ comprehension of previous material, capturing students’ attention, encouraging student participation, and motivating learners to engage actively in the classroom.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi bertanya yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris kelas sepuluh dalam pembelajaran di kelas, dengan tujuan memahami dampaknya terhadap keterlibatan, pemahaman, dan perkembangan berpikir kritis siswa. Dengan menerapkan metodologi kualitatif deskriptif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas dan wawancara dengan guru Bahasa Inggris. Analisis difokuskan pada identifikasi teknik bertanya spesifik yang digunakan dan mengeksplorasi motivasi di balik penerapannya di seluruh proses pendidikan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa guru tersebut terutama menggunakan dua kategori strategi bertanya: Strategi Perencanaan Pertanyaan dan Strategi Pengendalian Pertanyaan. Rasional penggunaan strategi ini meliputi menilai pemahaman siswa terhadap materi sebelumnya, menarik perhatian siswa, mendorong partisipasi siswa, dan memotivasi peserta didik untuk terlibat aktif di dalam kelas.
