Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where blood cholesterol levels exceed normal limits and is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Seaweed (Glacilaria sp.) is known to contain polysaccharides, fiber, and antioxidants that have the potential to lower blood cholesterol levels. This research aims to analyze the effect of seaweed agar-agar (Glacilaria sp.) on lipid profile levels in mice (Mus musculus). This research method was laboratory experimental using mice as test animals, divided into two groups: a control group and a treatment group given a dose of 2.5 mg/ 20 gbb. The parameters observed included total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride levels. The results showed that treatment with seaweed agar-agar (Glacilaria sp.) reduced total cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride levels and increased HDL levels in hypercholesterolemic mice. The application of seaweed agar-agar (Glacilaria sp.) at a dose of 2.5 mg/ 20 gbb can improve the lipid profile and provide information about the potential fiber content in seaweed agar-agar (Glacilaria sp.) as a natural anticholesterol ingredient.

Additional Information: Hiperkolesterol adalah kondisi di mana kadar kolesterol darah melebihi batas normal dan merupakan salah satu faktor risiko utama penyakit kardiovaskular. Rumput laut (Glacilaria sp.) diketahui mengandung polisakarida, serat, dan antioksidan yang berpotensi menurunkan kadar kolesterol darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh agar-agar rumput laut (Glacilaria sp.) terhadap profil lipid pada tikus (Mus musculus). Metode penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental laboratorium menggunakan mencit sebagai hewan uji, terbagi menjadi dua kelompok: kelompok kontrol dan kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan dosis 2,5 mg/20 gbb. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kadar kolesterol total, HDL, LDL, dan trigliserida. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan dengan agar-agar rumput laut (Glacilaria sp.) menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, LDL, dan trigliserida serta meningkatkan kadar HDL pada tikus hiperkolesterol. Pemberian agar-agar rumput laut (Glacilaria sp.) dengan dosis 2,5 mg/20 gbb dapat meningkatkan profil lipid dan memberikan informasi tentang potensi kandungan serat dalam agar-agar rumput laut (Glacilaria sp.) sebagai bahan alami penurun kolesterol.
