Abstract
Pakchoi (Brassica rapa L.) is an annual leafy vegetable with high nutritional value, containing proteins, fibers, minerals, and essential vitamins. Hydroponic cultivation using the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) system is an efficient alternative for limited land areas, as it maintains stable water and nutrient availability. Liquid organic fertilizer (POC) made from red onion peel, which contains growth hormones such as auxins and gibberellins along with bioactive compounds like flavonoids, phenolics, and saponins, has the potential to enhance vegetative growth. Meanwhile, AB Mix serves as the main nutrient source in hydroponic systems. This study aimed to analyze the effect of combining red onion peel extract with AB Mix on the growth and yield of pakchoi grown under the DFT hydroponic system. The research was conducted at the Graha Hydroponic Center, Serang City, from May to June 2025, using a Split Plot Design with two factors: AB Mix concentrations (0 ppm, 750 ppm, 1000 ppm) and red onion peel extract concentrations (0 g/L, 100 g/L, 200 g/L, 300 g/L, 400 g/L). Data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5% significance level, followed by DMRT at 5% if significant effects were found. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, fresh weight, dry weight, and shoot root ratio. The results showed that the combination of red onion peel extract and AB Mix significantly affected the growth and yield of pakchoi. The best treatment at 1000 ppm AB Mix produced an average plant height of 24.55 cm, leaf length of 10.26 cm, leaf width of 6.73 cm, fresh weight of 31.13 g, and dry weight of 2.27 g. Meanwhile, 750 ppm AB Mix resulted in the highest number of leaves 13.23 and shoot root ratio 5.63. The application of 400 g/L red onion peel extract also significantly affected growth, producing 21.68 cm plant height, 13.55 leaves, 9.43 cm leaf length, 6.27 cm leaf width, 26.50 g fresh weight, and 2.32 g dry weight. The interaction between AB Mix and red onion peel extract was significant at 30 days after transplanting, with the combination of 750 ppm AB Mix + 400 g/L red onion peel extract showing the best results leaf width of 7.45 cm, fresh weight of 37.46 g, and dry weight of 2.94 g. This combination proved to be the most effective in enhancing vegetative growth and yield of pakchoi.
