Abstract

Competition among companies is nothing new in the business world. Many companies compete to improve their performance in order to increase their competitiveness in attracting potential investors. One way to do this is by maximizing company value. According to Jeevesh et al (2021), company value is investors' perception of a company's level of success in relation to its share price. The higher the assessment of the company given by external parties, the higher the level of confidence of potential investors to invest (Hardiyansah et al, 2021). Many investors now view carbon emissions as an important indicator in assessing a company's sustainability. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2007 stated that climate change is a term that refers to changes in climate patterns caused by human activities, either directly or indirectly. Ummah et al (2021) stated that Indonesia is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the energy sector, where the Indonesian energy sector manages its business operations by using coal as the main fuel in steam power plants (PLTU), which can cause climate change and have a negative impact on human health (IDN Times, 2020). In facing environmental challenges, many companies in the energy sector now manage their businesses by applying the principles of environmental, social, and governance (ESG), which cover environmental, social, and good governance aspects, as well as implementing a series of strategies to reduce emissions and carry out mining practices. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate change mitigation is needed through carbon disclosure and good environmental performance. In this study, the researchers used quantitative research methods and data processing using STATA 17 software with the following results: Hypothesis 1, the effect of financial slack (FS) on carbon emission disclosure (CED) is statistically supported. Hypothesis 2: The effect of corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) on carbon emission disclosure (CED) is statistically supported. Hypothesis 3: Independent commissioners strengthen financial slack (FS) on carbon emission disclosure (CED) and is statistically supported. Hypothesis 4: Independent commissioners cannot strengthen corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) on carbon emission disclosure (CED). Hypothesis 5: The positive effect of financial slack (FS) on firm value (FV) is statistically supported. Hypothesis 6: The effect of corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) on firm value (FV) is statistically supported. Hypothesis 7, the effect of carbon emission disclosure (CED) on carbon performance (CP) is statistically supported. Hypothesis 8, the effect of carbon performance (CP) on firm value (FV) is not statistically supported. Hypothesis 9, the effect of carbon emission disclosure (CED) on firm value (FV) is not statistically supported. This study also provides research recommendations, namely the need for a longer time frame to observe trends and the long-term impact of CSR disclosure on carbon emissions, given that most existing studies only cover a short period of time. In addition, this study also provides practical implications that weak implementation is one of the main challenges in pollution control, so more decisive and concrete steps are needed to ensure that environmental policies can be effectively implemented in the field through the existence of a green taxonomy.
