Abstract

The scad fish (Decapterus macrosoma) is a small pelagic fish species with high economic value and is frequently caught in the Karangantu Archipelagic Fishing Port (PPN Karangantu), Serang, Banten. However, intense fishing pressure has raised concerns about the sustainability of its stock. One of the challenges in stock monitoring lies in the frequent occurrence of fish being landed in incomplete physical condition, which hinders accurate measurement of standard length. To address this issue, this study aims to develop a quantitative model to predict the standard length of scad fish using a morphometric characteristics approach. The research employed a quantitative method by measuring truss morphometric parameters from 100 scad fish specimens and analyzing the data using simple and multivariate linear regression. The results revealed a strong and significant relationship between specific morphometric traits and the fish's standard length. The developed regression model demonstrated a low RMSE value, indicating high accuracy in estimating fish length even when specimens are incomplete. These findings are expected to provide a practical solution for fish stock assessments and support data-driven policy-making for the sustainable management of fishery resources. In the future, the model may be further developed for application to other small pelagic fish species.

Additional Information: Truss morfometrik merupakan sebuah metode dalam menganalisis tubuh ikan. Namun, metode truss morfometrik masih sangat jarang diaplikasikan untuk memprediksi panjang baku ikan dengan keadaan tubuh tidak utuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model prediksi panjang baku ikan shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) berbantuan metode truss morfometrik sebagai solusi dalam estimasi morfologi ketika tubuh ikan tidak utuh. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Program Studi Ilmu Perikanan Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. Sebanyak 100 ekor shortfin scad berasal dari Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara (PPN) Karangantu digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian. Pengukuran ditujukan pada 24 titik truss morfometrik dan diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat kelompok bagian tubuh yaitu kepala (A), tubuh anterior (B), tubuh posterior (C), dan ekor (D). Analisis morfometrik melalui regresi linear sederhana dan berganda, kemudian dievaluasi dengan MAE, MSE, RMSE, dan R². Hasil regresi linear berganda menunjukkan bahwa kelompok badan anterior dan posterior memiliki koefisien determinasi tertinggi sebesar (R² > 0,97), nilai MAE, MSE, RMSE bernilai rendah, dan data distribusi residual mendekati normal. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, diketahui bahwa Tubuh Anterior (Kelompok B) merupakan sampel prediktor paling baik dalam menginterpretasikan panjang baku tubuh ikan keseluruhan menggunakan metode truss morfometrik.
