Abstract
Groundwater is the primary water source for the community in Pulomerak District, Cilegon City; however, industrial and domestic activities have significantly contributed to its deterioration.This study analyzed groundwater quality in three urban villages (Suralaya, Lebak Gede, and Tamansari) through physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Laboratory results indicated both biological and chemical contamination. In Suralaya, *Escherichia coli* was detected at 35 CFU/100ml with a pH of 4.6; in Lebak Gede, *E. coli* was 25 CFU/100ml with a pH of 6.42; while in Tamansari, TDS reached 885 mg/L, Cr⁶⁺ was 0.03 mg/L, and *E. coli* was 23 CFU/100ml. The analysis using the CCME-WQI (Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment – Water Quality Index) resulted in index scores of 20.80 (Suralaya), 22.59 (Lebak Gede), and 23.61 (Tamansari), all classified as “Very Poor.” The groundwater quality index map generated with QGIS illustrated that contamination is widespread across the study area.These findings highlight that groundwater in Pulomerak District is unsuitable for direct use, emphasizing the urgent need for environmental management, improved sanitation, and consistent groundwater quality monitoring to safeguard public health.
