Abstract
The increase in plastic waste, especially from PP bottles, has become a serious environmental problem due to low recycling rates and high use of single-use plastics. One potential solution is to utilize this waste as raw material for particle boards with the addition of lightweight and renewable bamboo powder. This study analyzes the effect of variations in compaction pressure and holding time on the physical and mechanical properties of particle boards based on plastic waste and bamboo powder using the DEAR method. Samples were made at pressures of 10 MPa and 30 MPa and times of 60 and 120 minutes, then tested for density, moisture content, thickness expansion, MOR, and MOE. The results show that pressure has a more dominant effect than holding time. The combination of 30 MPa for 60 minutes (sample Bb) gave the best results with a density of 0.790 g/cm³, MOR 53.810 kgf/cm², MOE of 11.140 kgf/cm², and the highest MRPI value of 6.480, while the lowest value was found in sample Aa (10 MPa, 60 minutes) with an MRPI of 0.211. In conclusion, the combination of high pressure and moderate holding time is the most optimal condition for producing strong, dense particle boards that are resistant to moisture. This study contributes to the development of alternative materials based on plastic waste and supports sustainable waste reduction efforts. Keywords: Particleboard, DEAR, MRPI.
