Abstract

Pronunciation plays a crucial role in ensuring learners' intelligibility and communicative competence, yet many EFL students continue to face persistent difficulties in mastering vowel sounds. This research aimed to investigate the effect of using SpeechAce towards seventh-grade students' pronunciation skills at MTSN 1 Kab. Tangerang. Based on preliminary research at junior high school, many students struggled with spesific vowels, particularly /ɪ/ and /iː/ and /æ/ and /ɛ/. This study employed a true experimental design with one experimental group (n = 26) and one control group (n = 25). The main instrument was an oral pronunciation test consisting of 20 minimal pairs, administered as a pre-test and post-test. The results showed that the experimental class (M = 51.54, SD = 5.62) outperformed the control class (M = 42.40, SD = 5.61), with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that SpeechAce had a significant effect towards students' pronunciation skills. Beyond statistical improvement, students also became more confident and engaged in learning activities. The study concludes that SpeechAce is an effective supplementary tool for improving pronunciation, and it is recommended that English teachers integrate it into classroom practice to support both pronunciation and learner motivation.
