Abstract
This study explores the formation of self-image among members of the FKIP Ambassador Association at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University in responding to the social expectations of the 3B concept (Brain, Beauty, Behavior). Self-image is understood as a product of social reflection through the processes of imagining, interpreting, and developing self-perceptions based on others’ views. In this context, the 3B concept serves as a symbol of perfection that demands balance between intelligence, appearance, and ideal behavior, yet often creates personal dilemmas for members whose gender expression or personality does not align with prevailing social and institutional stereotypes. This research aims to describe the dynamics of self-image formation among FKIP Ambassadors in facing these social standards. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Charles Horton Cooley’s Looking Glass Self theory as the analytical framework, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and organizational documentation involving FKIP Ambassadors from the 2022–2024 cohorts. The documentation includes social activities, training processes, and interpersonal interactions that contribute to the construction of self-image within the organization. The results indicate that self-image formation is reflective and dynamic, progressing through three stages: imagining, interpreting, and developing self-concept. This process reveals continuous negotiation between authentic identity and social expectations. The ambassadorial role enhances members’ personal growth, communication, and social skills, yet also generates symbolic perfectionism pressures. Therefore, it is necessary to establish more inclusive and reflective development spaces to ensure that the self-image formed remains authentic and aligned with students’ social realities.
