Abstract
This study aims to examine the optimization of the PPID Kota Serang website as a medium for disseminating public information from the perspective of public communication. The research employs a qualitative approach by collecting data through observation, in-depth interviews with key informants (DISKOMINFO Kota Serang staff) and supporting informants (the public), as well as documentation related to website management. The findings indicate that the PPID Kota Serang website plays an important role in providing public information digitally and supporting two-way communication between the government and society. However, its utilization remains suboptimal due to several technical barriers, such as limited human resources, delays in updating information, and a less engaging visual appearance. Non-technical obstacles, including low digital literacy among the public and limited socialization efforts, also affect the website’s effectiveness as a medium of public communication. By applying the theories of new media and public communication, this study emphasizes the importance of digital platform integration and the enhancement of public digital literacy so that the PPID website can function more effectively as a bridge for communication and government transparency. The research gap lies in the lack of academic studies on the role of regional PPID websites in the context of new media-based public communication, while the novelty lies in the use of these two theories to offer strategies for optimizing and increasing public literacy.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji optimalisasi website PPID Kota Serang sebagai sarana penyebarluasan informasi publik dalam perspektif komunikasi publik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dengan informan kunci (pegawai DISKOMINFO Kota Serang) dan informan pendukung (masyarakat), serta dokumentasi terkait pengelolaan website. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa website PPID Kota Serang memiliki peran penting dalam menyediakan informasi publik secara digital dan mendukung komunikasi dua arah antara pemerintah dan masyarakat. Namun, pemanfaatannya masih belum optimal akibat beberapa hambatan teknis, seperti keterbatasan sumber daya manusia, keterlambatan pembaruan informasi, serta tampilan visual yang kurang menarik. Hambatan non-teknis seperti rendahnya literasi digital masyarakat dan minimnya sosialisasi juga turut mempengaruhi efektivitas website sebagai media komunikasi publik. Menggunakan teori new media dan komunikasi publik. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya integrasi antarplatform digital serta peningkatan literasi masyarakat agar website PPID dapat berfungsi lebih optimal sebagai jembatan komunikasi dan transparansi pemerintah. Gap penelitian terletak pada minimnya kajian akademik mengenai peran website PPID daerah dalam konteks komunikasi publik berbasis new media, sedangkan novelty ada pada penggunaan dua teori tersebut untuk menawarkan strategi optimalisasi dan peningkatan literasi masyarakat. | ||||||
