Abstract
Wild betta fish are increasingly difficult to find in their natural habitats. Several wild betta species are classified as Critically Endangered (CR) in conservation status. Betta edithae is one of the wild betta species that is at risk of extinction. However, the rearing of B. edithae larvae in controlled environments has not been widely practiced, so information regarding the optimal temperature is still limited. This study aims to determine the optimal temperature for the growth and development of B. edithae larvae. This experimental study was conducted from April to May 2023. Four treatments of the different temperature (27, 28, 29, and 30°C) and three replications were used in this study. The results showed that 28°C was the optimal temperature for the growth and development of B. edithae larvae, as indicated by a low abnormality rate of 0%, mouth opening size of 1.171 mm, survival rate of 83%, absolute weight of 0.03 g, and absolute length of 8.5 mm, which were higher compared to 27°C, 29°C, and 30°C. Although 28°C showed the highest percentages, it did not have a significant effect on pigmentation and chromatophore cells.

| Additional Information: | Ikan cupang liar semakin sulit ditemukan di habitat aslinya. Bahkan beberapa spesies cupang liar memiliki status konservasi Critically Endangered (CR). | |||||||||
