Abstract

In the digital media era, short visual content such as Reels has emerged as a new form of information delivery that has the potential to transform news consumption. This study aims to examine the influence of Instagram Reels from the @detikcom account on the news consumption patterns of its followers. The theoretical framework is based on Marshall McLuhan’s Technological Determinism, which emphasizes that media shape the way people communicate, think, and behave. This research uses a quantitative approach with a simple random sampling technique, involving 349 respondents. The t-test results indicate a significant influence between Instagram Reels and news consumption patterns, with a t-value of 20.552 > t-table value of 1.967 and a significance level of < 0.001. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.549 shows that 54.9% of the change in news consumption patterns is influenced by Reels content. The audiovisual dimension emerged as the most dominant factor, while interactivity was relatively low. These findings suggest that Instagram Reels contribute to shaping new habits in news consumption.

Additional Information: Dalam era media digital, konten visual pendek seperti Reels menjadi bentuk baru penyampaian informasi yang berpotensi mengubah konsumsi berita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Instagram Reels akun @detikcom terhadap pola konsumsi berita followers. Teori yang digunakan adalah Determinisme Teknologi Marshall McLuhan yang menekankan bahwa media membentuk cara komunikasi, berpikir dan berperilaku manusia. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan teknik simple random sampling, melibatkan 349 responden. Hasil uji t menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan antara Instagram Reels dan pola konsumsi berita, dengan nilai t hitung 20,552 > t tabel 1,967 dan signifikansi < 0,001. Koefisien determinasi sebesar 0,549 menunjukkan bahwa 54,9% perubahan pola konsumsi berita dipengaruhi oleh konten Reels. Dimensi audiovisual menjadi faktor paling dominan, sementara interaktivitas tergolong rendah. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Instagram Reels membentuk kebiasaan baru dalam mengonsumsi berita.
