Abstract
Roads are one of the most common land transportation infrastructure and are widely used by people in carrying out their daily activities. Therefore, the volume of vehicles crossing a road section greatly affects the capacity and carrying capacity of the road. Road construction and maintenance aims to create a sense of security and comfort for users. This study aims to determine the material characteristics of the wear layer asphalt mixture (AC-WC) using xolabit PG-70 polymer modified asphalt, and to determine the effect of strength on the marshall characteristics of palm kernel shell ash waste as a filler additive in asphalt concrete wear layer 2 (AC-WC) with variations of 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% with polymer modified asphalt. The research showed that the optimum asphalt content (KAO) was obtained at 6.5% for all variations of palm kernel shell ash content, namely 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%. The optimum stability value in accordance with the Marshall characteristics required in the General Specification of Bina Marga 2024 for AC-WC type asphalt mixtures, was achieved by adding 3% palm kernel shell ash with 6.5% asphalt content, resulting in a stability of 1400.12 kg. In comparison, a mixture without palm kernel shell ash (0%) with the same asphalt content, the stability value obtained was only 1258.29 kg. This indicates that the addition of 3% palm kernel shell ash increases the resistance of the mixture to deformation and load, resulting in better flexibility and ability to resist deformation.
