Abstract
The aims of this study are to know the implementation of teachers’ oral and written feedback for students’ work in reading and writing activities at SMAN 1 Ciruas and to know the students’ response to teachers’ feedback in reading comprehension and writing activity. The researcher focused on analyzing how teachers provided oral feedback and written feedback for their students’ assignments in reading and writing and also on the student’s responses to the feedback given by their teachers. The subjects in this research are 80 students from eleventh and twelfth grades at SMAN 1 Ciruas. The researcher found that students have some problems in learning English, such as difficulties understanding the text and writing their ideas. One of the strategies that teachers can use to solve those problems is using feedback. This study used a qualitative research design, using interviews, questionnaires, and analysis of written feedback provided by teachers. The data showed that the teachers used several types of oral feedback in reading activities to correct their students’ mistakes, and the teachers also used several types of written feedback to correct the students’ errors in writing activities. The researcher also found that the students enjoyed the learning activities when their teachers implemented feedback in the teaching and learning activity. Students got information to improve their reading and writing skills through the teachers’ feedback.
