Abstract
Hydrogels are hydrophilic polymers with a cross-linked network structure, capable of swelling in water and exhibiting high water diffusion capacity. Hydrogels can be utilized for water and nutrient absorption. This study aims to produce hydrogels and evaluate the water absorption capacity of hydrogels. In this research, material preparation was conducted using two material matrices, namely Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), with varying PVA concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%, subjected to gamma radiation doses of 30 and 40 kGy. The resulting and dried hydrogels were analyzed for gel fraction, swelling, water retention, water holding capacity, urea loading, and characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The most suitable radiation dose for producing hydrogels was 30 kGy, as at this dose, water absorption was more effective compared to 40 kGy, which exhibited a denser cross-linked structure, making water absorption more difficult.

| Additional Information: | Hidrogel merupakan polimer hidrofilik yang mempunyai bentuk seperti jaringan berikatan silang, mempunyai kemampuan swelling dalam air dan memiliki daya difusi air yang tinggi. Hidrogel bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai penyerapan air dan nutrisi. Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk memperoleh hidrogel dan mengetahui daya serap air dari hidrogel. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan preparasi bahan dengan dua matriks bahan yaitu Polivinil Alkohol- Carboxymethyl Cellulose dengan variasi konsentrasi PVA 10%, 20% dan 30 % yang akan dikenai radiasi gamma dosis 30, dan 40 kGy. Hidrogel yang terbentuk dan dikeringkan kemudian akan dilakukan analisa fraksi gel, swelling, retensi air, water holding, loading urea dan karaterisasi yaitu Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Dosis radiasi yang sangat cocok dalam pembuatan hidrogel yaitu pada 30 kGy, ini dikarenakan pada 30 kGy proses penyerapan air cenderung lebih baik daripada 40 kGy yang memiliki struktur crosslinking yang lebih rapat dan sulit dalam penyerapan air. | ||||||
