Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the role-playing technique in enhancing students’ speaking abilities in everyday conversation at SMP Negeri 1 Saketi. The research employed a true experimental design involving two groups: an experimental class taught through role-playing and a control class taught using conventional methods, each consisting of 30 students. Both groups were given a pre-test and a post-test to assess their speaking performance. The data were analyzed using an Independent Samples T-Test with SPSS version 25. The results indicated that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which is lower than the standard alpha level of 0.05. This means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted, while the null hypothesis was rejected. In conclusion, the role-playing technique was proven to be effective in improving students’ speaking skills in daily communication.
