Abstract
This study aims to improve the listening and speaking skills of Grade XI-6 students at SMAN 10 Pandeglang through the implementation of the Gemini AI application in English learning. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four meetings. In the pre-cycle stage, pretest results showed that students' listening and speaking skills were still low, with major weaknesses in understanding implicit meanings and speaking fluency. The intervention was carried out by integrating Gemini AI into a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, focusing on listening and speaking practices within contexts relevant to students' daily lives. The results showed a significant improvement in both skills. The average listening score increased from 14.42 in the pre-cycle to 26.36 by the end of Cycle II, with most students reaching the "Good" category. Similarly, the average speaking score rose from 6.18 to 13.18, with 73.68% of students falling into the "Good" category. This improvement reflects that the use of Gemini AI particularly its automatic transcript and instant feedback features successfully enhanced students’ abilities to comprehend spoken texts and express opinions orally with greater confidence. This study concludes that the integration of AI-based technology such as Gemini can be an effective alternative for improving students’ English language skills in an active and enjoyable learning environment. | Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara siswa kelas XI-6 SMAN 10 Pandeglang melalui penerapan aplikasi Gemini AI dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing terdiri dari empat pertemuan. Pada tahap pra-siklus, hasil pretest menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara siswa masih tergolong rendah, dengan kelemahan utama pada pemahaman makna implisit dan kefasihan berbicara. Intervensi dilakukan dengan mengintegrasikan Gemini AI dalam strategi pembelajaran berbasis Problem-Based Learning (PBL) yang menekankan pada latihan mendengarkan dan berbicara dalam konteks yang relevan dengan kehidupan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada kedua keterampilan tersebut. Skor rata-rata menyimak meningkat dari 14,42 pada pra- siklus menjadi 26,36 pada akhir Siklus II, dengan mayoritas siswa mencapai kategori “Baik.” Demikian pula, skor rata-rata berbicara meningkat dari 6,18 menjadi 13,18, dengan 73,68% siswa berada pada kategori “Baik.” Peningkatan ini mencerminkan bahwa penggunaan Gemini AI, terutama fitur transkrip otomatis dan umpan balik langsung, berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami materi lisan dan mengekspresikan pendapat secara lisan dengan lebih percaya diri. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa integrasi teknologi berbasis AI seperti Gemini dapat menjadi alternatif efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris siswa secara aktif dan menyenangkan.
