Abstract

This research to examine the effectiveness of the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method in improving eye contact skills of children with autism at SKh Elok Asri. The research background is based on the fact that children with autism often face difficulties in social interaction, particularly in maintaining eye contact as a fundamental aspect of communication. The research employed an experimental method using a Single Subject Research (SSR) design with an A-B-A model, consisting of baseline 1 (A1), intervention (B), and baseline 2 (A2). The subject of this study was one elementary-aged child with autism who experienced challenges in eye contact. Data were collected through direct observation and recording of eye contact frequency in 30-minute sessions. The findings indicated a significant improvement in the child’s ability to make eye contact after the implementation of ABA. During baseline 1 (A1), the average frequency of eye contact was 9 times, which increased to an average of 17 times during the intervention phase (B), and remained at an average of 14 times during baseline 2 (A2). The study concludes that ABA is effective in enhancing eye contact skills among children with autism and can serve as an alternative behavioral intervention strategy in special education settings. Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan metode Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan kontak mata anak autis di SKh Elok Asri. Latar belakang penelitian berangkat dari permasalahan anak autis yang cenderung mengalami hambatan dalam keterampilan interaksi sosial, khususnya dalam menjaga kontak mata sebagai salah satu aspek dasar komunikasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain subjek tunggal (Single Subject Research) model A-B-A, yang terdiri dari fase baseline 1 (A1), fase intervensi (B), dan fase baseline 2 (A2). Subjek penelitian adalah seorang anak autis kelas dasar dengan hambatan pada keterampilan kontak mata. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi langsung dan pencatatan frekuensi kontak mata dalam setiap sesi dengan durasi 30 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan kontak mata setelah penerapan metode ABA. Pada fase baseline 1 (A1) rata-rata frekuensi kontak mata anak adalah 9 kali, meningkat menjadi rata-rata 17 kali pada fase intervensi (B), dan tetap terjaga pada rata-rata 14 kali pada fase baseline 2 (A2). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa penerapan metode ABA efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan kontak mata anak autis, serta dapat menjadi alternatif strategi intervensi dalam pembelajaran anak berkebutuhan khusus.
