Abstract
This study aims to compare the farm productivity of shallot (Allium cepa L.) between farmers who participated in the Farmer Field School (Sekolah Lapang) program and those who did not. The research was conducted as a case study on the Sumber Jaya Farmers’ Group, located in Sawah Luhur Village, Kasemen District, Serang City, Banten Province. The background of this study stems from the fluctuating productivity of shallots in Banten, which remains insufficient to meet local consumption needs, leading to dependency on external supplies. The Farmer Field School program was introduced as a strategic intervention to improve farmers knowledge, skills, and management practices, with the expectation of enhancing productivity and ensuring regional food security. This research employed a quantitative comparative approach. Primary data were collected through structured interviews and field observations, while secondary data were obtained from relevant institutions. The Mann-Whitney U test was applied to examine the difference in productivity between the two farmer groups. The findings revealed that there is a statistically significant difference in productivity between Farmer Field School alumni and non-participants, indicating that the program contributes to higher farm outputs. The results highlight the importance of continuous agricultural education and farmer empowerment programs in improving productivity and supporting local food self-sufficiency. The study provides empirical evidence for policymakers and agricultural stakeholders to strengthen and expand the Farmer Field School model as an effective tool for sustainable agricultural development.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan produktivitas usahatani bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) antara petani yang mengikuti Program Sekolah Lapang dan yang tidak mengikuti. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebagai studi kasus pada Kelompok Tani Sumber Jaya yang berlokasi di Kelurahan Sawah Luhur, Kecamatan Kasemen, Kota Serang, Provinsi Banten. Latar belakang penelitian ini berangkat dari fluktuasi produktivitas bawang merah di Banten yang masih belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi lokal sehingga menimbulkan ketergantungan pada pasokan dari luar daerah. Program Sekolah Lapang diperkenalkan sebagai intervensi strategis untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan praktik manajemen petani dengan harapan dapat meningkatkan produktivitas serta mendukung ketahanan pangan daerah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif komparatif. Data primer diperoleh melalui wawancara terstruktur dan observasi lapangan, sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari lembaga terkait. Uji Mann-Whitney U digunakan untuk menguji perbedaan produktivitas antara kedua kelompok petani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik antara produktivitas petani alumni Sekolah Lapang dan non-alumni, yang mengindikasikan bahwa program tersebut berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan hasil usahatani. Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya pendidikan pertanian berkelanjutan dan program pemberdayaan petani dalam meningkatkan produktivitas serta mendukung swasembada pangan lokal. Penelitian ini memberikan bukti empiris bagi pembuat kebijakan dan pemangku kepentingan di sektor pertanian untuk memperkuat dan memperluas model Sekolah Lapang sebagai instrumen efektif dalam pembangunan pertanian berkelanjutan. | |||||||||
