Abstract

Writing activities are considered difficult activities and cannot be mastered in one go, but there needs to be regular practice. In addition to regular exercises, there is also a need for learning renewal that can be done by providing an active, creative, and fun learning model so that students can easily find interesting ideas when writing. This study aims to analyze the use of the discovery learning model, the use of the brainwriting learning model, and the effect of the use of the discovery learning model on the writing skills of class VII students of SMPN 6 Tangerang City. This quantitative approach research uses a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique used a purposive sampling technique with class VII-C as the experimental class and class VII-D as the control class. The data obtained were in the form of test results for writing descriptive texts from the pretest and posttest through statistical calculations. The results of statistical calculations show that the average posttest score of the use of the discovery learning model is 73.44 which is category C "Adequate" and the average posttest score of the use of the brainwriting model is 68.34 which is category C "Adequate". The two classes had a difference in influence as shown through the average posttest scores of the experimental class and the control class which had a difference of 5.1 points. In addition, the t-test also shows that the ttable ≤ tcount ≥ ttable, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted or -2.03 ≤ 9.88 ≥2.03 then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the use of the discovery learning model has an influence and shows superior results compared to the brainwriting learning model in improving the writing skills of descriptive texts for grade VII students of SMPN 6 Tangerang City. Additional Information: Kegiatan menulis dianggap sebagai kegiatan yang sulit dan tidak bisa dikuasai dengan sekali jadi, melainkan perlu adanya latihan yang rutin. Selain latihan rutin, perlu juga adanya pembaharuan pembelajaran yang dapat dilakukan dengan pemberian model pembelajaran yang aktif, kreatif, dan menyenangkan agar siswa mudah menemukan ide menarik saat menulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan model pembelajaran discovery learning, penggunaan model pembelajaran brainwriting dan pengaruh penggunaan model pembelajaran discovery learning terhadap keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMPN 6 Kota Tangerang. Penelitian dengan pendekatan kuantitatif ini menggunakan desain quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling purposive dengan kelas VII-C sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VII-D sebagai kelas kontrol. Data yang diperoleh berupa hasil tes menulis teks deskripsi dari pretest dan posttest melalui perhitungan statistik. Hasil perhitungan statistik memperlihatkan bahwa nilai rata-rata posttest penggunaan model discovery learning sebesar 73,44 yang berkategori C “Cukup” dan nilai rata-rata posttest penggunaan model brainwriting sebesar 68,34 yang berkategori C “Cukup”. Kedua kelas tersebut memiliki perbedaan pengaruh yang ditunjukkan melalui nilai rata-rata posttest kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol yang memiliki selisih sebesar 5,1 poin. Selain itu, uji-t juga menunjukkan bahwa ttabel ≤ thitung ≥ ttabel maka H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima atau -2,03 ≤ 9,88 ≥2,03 maka H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran discovery learning memiliki pengaruh dan menunjukkan hasil yang lebih unggul dibandingkan model pembelajaran brainwriting dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMPN 6 Kota Tangerang.
