Abstract

Science education, particularly biology, requires the ability to argue scientifically, i.e. to present statements supported by evidence. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing Problem Based Learning integrated with STEM on improving scientific argumentation in the sub-concept of the excretory system. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The study was conducted from February to June 2025 at SMAN 1 Baros, with class XI-6 serving as the control group and class XI-8 as the experimental group, with a total of 37 students participating. Data was collected using a test consisting of essay questions and non-test techniques, such as observation sheets for the implementation of the lesson and interview sheets. The average score for scientific argumentation skills for the control group was 44.07 and for the experimental group 56.61, both of which are in the adequate category. The data analysis technique used in this study was Independent Sample t-Test, which yielded a value of asymp sig 2 tailed (0.001 < 0.05). It can therefore be concluded that there is an effect of Problem Based Learning integrated STEM on the improvement of scientific argumentation skills in students on the sub-concept of the excretory system.

Additional Information: Pembelajaran sains terutama biologi memerlukan keterampilan beragumentasi ilmiah, yaitu menyampaikan pernyataan yang disertai dengan bukti sebagai pembenaran pernyataan yang dibuatnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh penerapan Problem Based Learning terintegrasi STEM dalam meningkatkan argumentasi ilmiah pada sub konsep Sistem Ekskresi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi experiment dengan desain penelitian posttest only control group design. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari-Juni 2025 di SMAN 1 Baros pada kelas XI-6 sebagai kelas kontrol dan XI-8 sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan jumlah 37 peserta didik. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian menggunakan tes berupa soal uraian dan non tes dengan menggunakan lembar observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dan lembar wawancara. Nilai rata rata keterampilan argumentasi ilmiah peserta didik kelas kontrol yaitu 44,07 dan kelas eksperimen 56,61 yang termasuk dalam kategori cukup. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Independent Sample t-Test yang diperoleh nilai asymp sig 2-tailed (0,001<0,05), dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh Problem Based Learning terintegrasi STEM terhadap peningkatan argumentasi ilmiah peserta didik pada sub konsep sistem ekskresi.
