Abstract
According to the Environmental Performance Index 2022, Indonesia scored 28.2 on a scale of 0-100 and out of 180 countries, Indonesia is ranked 164th in the category of countries with poor performance in terms of environmental conservation, both globally and in the Asia Pacific region. This study aims to analyze the effect of GRDP per capita, population density, proper sanitation, income inequality, FDI and education on the environmental quality index in 34 provinces in Indonesia in the period 2015-2023. The method used is a dynamic panel with the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model. The results of the study show that GRDP per capita, population density have a negative and significant effect on the environmental quality index. Conversely, proper sanitation, income inequality and education have a positive and significant effect on the environmental quality index. Meanwhile, the FDI variable does not have a significant effect on the environmental quality index in 34 provinces during 2015-2023.
