Abstract

This study aims to examine the form of political communication and the dynamics of power within the student organization BEM KBM UNTIRTA, particularly concerning the alleged intervention of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) through the National Student Movement (GMNI) during the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. This research employs a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm, integrating Dan Nimmo’s political communication theory, Antonio Gramsci’s hegemony theory, and organizational communication theory. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that PDIP’s political communication with BEM KBM UNTIRTA occurs through symbolic, interpersonal, and ideological channels. The hegemonic process is carried out by embedding dominant values within the organization’s social structure, leading to the weakening of BEM’s independence as a student representative body. Internally, the organization exhibits an unequal power structure, with members from GMNI occupying key positions. Meanwhile, resistance to political intervention remains limited due to low critical awareness and the absence of open dialogue. This study underscores the urgency of strengthening organizational ethics, student political literacy, and campus policies that ensure the neutrality of student organizations.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk komunikasi politik serta dinamika kekuasaan yang terjadi dalam organisasi kemahasiswaan BEM KBM UNTIRTA, khususnya terkait dugaan intervensi Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDIP) melalui elemen Gerakan Mahasiswa Nasional Indonesia (GMNI) dalam momentum Pilkada Serentak 2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan paradigma kritis, serta memadukan teori komunikasi politik dari Dan Nimmo, teori hegemoni Antonio Gramsci, dan komunikasi organisasi. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi non-partisipatif, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi politik PDIP terhadap BEM KBM UNTIRTA berlangsung melalui jalur simbolik, interpersonal, dan ideologis. Proses hegemoni terjadi melalui infiltrasi nilai dalam struktur sosial organisasi, yang berdampak pada melemahnya independensi BEM sebagai representasi mahasiswa. Struktur internal organisasi juga memperlihatkan relasi kuasa yang timpang, di mana pengurus dari elemen GMNI memegang peran dominan. Di sisi lain, resistensi terhadap intervensi politik tampak minim akibat lemahnya kesadaran kritis dan terbatasnya ruang dialog. Penelitian ini menyoroti pentingnya memperkuat etika organisasi, literasi politik mahasiswa, serta kebijakan kampus yang menjamin netralitas organisasi mahasiswa.
