Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach on students' numeracy skills, viewed from the perspective of self-efficacy in elementary school students. The research was motivated by the low numeracy achievement of Indonesian students as shown in the 2022 PISA results and national assessments (AKM), indicating a need to improve numeracy proficiency. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The participants were fifth-grade students at SDIT Raudhatul Jannah, Cilegon, selected through cluster random sampling. The experimental class was taught using the PBL model with the TaRL approach, while the control class received instruction using the PBL model only. The instruments used were numeracy test items and a self-efficacy questionnaire. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA . The results showed that: (1) students who received instruction using the PBL model integrated with the TaRL approach demonstrated higher numeracy performance compared to those taught using only the PBL model; (2) students with high self-efficacy had better numeracy skills compared to those with moderate and low self-efficacy; and (3) there was a significant interaction between the learning model and self-efficacy on students' numeracy performance. The findings suggest that integrating PBL with the TaRL approach is a promising strategy to improve numeracy outcomes in elementary education.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) dengan pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) terhadap kemampuan numerasi siswa ditinjau dari self efficacy siswa sekolah dasar. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada rendahnya hasil numerasi siswa Indonesia berdasarkan data PISA 2022 serta hasil Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM) yang menunjukkan kemampuan numerasi siswa masih perlu ditingkatkan. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain quasi eksperimen nonequivalent control group design. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas V di SDIT Raudhatul Jannah Kota Cilegon dan sampel dipilih secara cluster random sampling, terdiri dari kelas eksperimen yang memperoleh model PBL dengan pendekatan TaRL dan kelas kontrol yang hanya menggunakan model PBL. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes numerasi dan angket self efficacy. Analasis data dilakukan menggunakan uji ANOVA dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) kemampuan numerasi siswa yang diajar dengan model PBL berbasis pendekatan TaRL lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajar dengan model PBL saja; (2) siswa dengan self efficacy tinggi memiliki kemampuan numerasi yang lebih baik dibandingkan siswa dengan self efficacy sedang dan rendah; dan (3) tidak terdapat interaksi signifikan antara model pembelajaran dan self efficacy terhadap kemampuan numerasi siswa. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan integrasi model PBL dengan pendekatan TaRL sebagai alternatif pembelajaran yang adaptif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan numerasi di jenjang sekolah dasar.
