Abstract
Access to education remains a significant issue in the East Asia and Pacific region, despite the area being known for its relatively rapid economic growth. However, according to UNDP data, educational access inequality in this region remains high, and the average school enrollment used as an indicator of educational access declined in the most recent year, 2023. This indicates a paradox between economic growth and educational advancement, which ideally should progress hand in hand. This study aims to analyze the impact of government expenditure on education, urbanization, the Corruption Perceptions Index, and GDP per capita on school enrollment rates in both the short and long term. The objects of this study are 16 countries in the East Asia and Pacific region during the period 2019–2023. The research employs the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) approach. The findings reveal that government expenditure on education, urbanization, the Corruption Perceptions Index, and GDP per capita all have a positive and significant effect on school enrollment rates in both the short and long term.
