Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of the YouTube channel “Learn English with TV Series” as a learning medium for improving English speaking skills. Using an exploratory qualitative case study design, data were collected from 30 eleventh-grade students at MAN 2 Kota Serang through open-ended and close-ended questionnaires and interviews with students and their teacher. Thematic analysis following Gibbs (2007) was used for data interpretation. The findings revealed that students perceived the YouTube channel as engaging and beneficial in enhancing their speaking, pronunciation, and vocabulary skills. However, challenges such as comprehension difficulties and the need for teacher guidance were also identified. The study concludes that YouTube can effectively support speaking skill development when integrated with teacher facilitation and adapted to learners' needs.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini menyelidiki persepsi siswa terhadap saluran YouTube “Learn “Bahasa Inggris dengan Serial TV” sebagai media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris keterampilan. Dengan menggunakan desain studi kasus kualitatif eksploratif, data dikumpulkan dari 30 siswa kelas sebelas MAN 2 Kota Serang melalui metode terbuka dan kuesioner tertutup dan wawancara dengan siswa dan guru mereka. Analisis tematik mengikuti Gibbs (2007) digunakan untuk interpretasi data. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa siswa menganggap saluran YouTube tersebut menarik dan bermanfaat dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara, pengucapan, dan kosa kata mereka. Namun, tantangan seperti kesulitan pemahaman dan kebutuhan guru panduan juga diidentifikasi. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa YouTube dapat secara efektif mendukung pengembangan keterampilan berbicara ketika diintegrasikan dengan fasilitasi guru dan disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan peserta didik.
