Abstract
This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model in the Light Vehicle Electrical Maintenance (PKKR subject in class XI TKR SMK Negeri 3 Tangerang Regency. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, with stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques include observation, tests (pretest and Posttest), and Esai questions based on case studies. The results showed a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills. The average critical thinking assessment score increased from 2.14 in cycle I to 3.45 in cycle II, with 26 out of 29 students (89.66%) experiencing an increase. The average pretest score of 4.00 increased to 5.66 in the Posttest of cycle I, and increased again to 8.90 in the Posttest of cycle II. The average increase from pretest to posttest was 75.00% in cycle I and increased significantly to 223.28% in cycle II. Individually, 26 out of 29 students (89.66%) experienced an increase in scores from pretest to posttest in cycle II. Furthermore, the average score on students' Esais also increased from 1.32 in cycle I to 3.09 in cycle II, with all students experiencing an increase. This indicates that the PBL model has a significant impact on students' critical thinking skills, both through objective tests and case study-based Esais. Therefore, the research success indicator, which is at least 75% of students experiencing an increase in critical thinking skills, is stated to have been achieved and significantly exceeded. This statement indicates that the Problem Based Learning model has proven effective in vocational learning, as it is able to hone critical thinking skills that are in line with the demands of the workplace, especially in the automotive sector.
