Abstract

Paray fish (Rasbora aprotaenia) is an endemic freshwater species found in the western part of Java Island, including Banten Province. Information on its aquaculture remains limited. Until now, Paray broodstock has been sourced directly from the wild. The availability of seed is strongly influenced by the success of gonadal maturation. To improve maturation, hormonal induction may be applied. One such hormone is Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG), which has gonadotropic properties. This study aimed to examine the effect of PMSG administered through feed on the maturation of male R. aprotaenia. The research was conducted from October to December 2024 at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Male Paray broodstock (2–4 g/fish) were maintained in 12 aquaria (70 × 30 × 30 cm³) for 42 days, with 8 fish per tank. Observed parameters included sperm volume, sperm pH, motility, viability, and morphometry. Administration of 0.25 mL/kg PMSG resulted in a sperm volume of 0.05 mL, viability of 99.9%, motility of 79.80%, pH of 7.71±0.07, and normal sperm morphology.

PMSG terbukti mendukung proses maturasi induk jantan ikan paray.
