Abstract

This research analyzes the social construction of women in marital relations in Silebu Village, which is experiencing a transformation from an agrarian to an industrial society. Using Rosemarie Tong's Socialist Feminism theory and Clark Moustakas's Phenomenology method, this study found that women's identity as wives is formed through the internalization of social expectations that emphasize domestic and reproductive functions. This construction is influenced by structural factors including low levels of education and limited economic access due to gender discrimination. Capitalism and patriarchy operate simultaneously, creating double exploitation where women contribute to the capitalist economy while performing domestic roles without adequate recognition. The oppression factors include economic transformation, limited access to education, and internalization of traditional gender ideology.
