Abstract

This research discusses the representation of post-truth in the film Budi Pekerti. Post-truth is a condition in which facts no longer have a major influence in shaping public opinion rather than personal emotions and beliefs. This phenomenon thrives in the digital space and is often captured in films as a reflection of social reality. This research aims to identify the representation of post-truth in Budi Pekerti movie through John Fiske's semiotic analysis method, which includes three stages: level of reality, level of representation, and level of ideology. The approach used is qualitative with constructivism paradigm. The unit of analysis consists of seven scenes based on indicators of the characteristics of the post-truth era, namely: the dominance of emotions and subjective claims, opinion over logic, indifference to facts, the spread of lies, distrust of conventional media, and loss of trust in experts. The results of the study show that at the level of reality, post-truth is represented through emotional and impulsive behavior that is not fact-based, emotional and defensive speech, and gestures that reinforce the delivery of emotions and subjective perceptions. At the level of representation, post-truth appears through conflicts triggered by the pressure of public opinion and dialog that emphasizes emotions rather than facts. Based on the level of reality and representation, the ideological level in this film reflects the values of individualism and capitalism that prioritize personal interests and profits.

Post-truth merupakan kondisi di mana fakta tidak lagi memiliki pengaruh besar dalam membentuk opini publik dibandingkan emosi dan keyakinan personal. Fenomena ini berkembang pesat di ruang digital dan kerap diangkat dalam film sebagai refleksi realitas sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi representasi post-truth dalam film Budi Pekerti melalui metode analisis semiotika John Fiske, yang mencakup tiga tahap: level realitas, level representasi, dan level ideologi. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme. Unit analisis terdiri dari tujuh adegan berdasarkan indikator ciri-ciri era post-truth yaitu: dominasi emosi dan klaim subjektif, opini mengalahkan logika, ketidakpedulian pada fakta, penyebaran kebohongan, distrust terhadap media konvensional, dan hilangnya kepercayaan pada pakar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pada level realitas, post-truth direpresentasikan melalui perilaku emosional dan impulsif yang tidak berbasis fakta, cara bicara yang emosional dan defensif, serta gestur yang memperkuat penyampaian emosi dan persepsi subjektif. Pada level representasi, post-truth tampak melalui konflik yang dipicu tekanan opini publik dan dialog yang menonjolkan emosi daripada fakta. Berdasarkan level realitas dan representasi, level ideologi dalam film ini mencerminkan nilai individualisme dan kapitalisme yang mengedepankan kepentingan pribadi dan keuntungan di atas etika serta kebenaran.
