Abstract
Background: Pityriasis versicolor (PV) is a superficial skin infection caused by Malassezia and is common in tropical areas. Elementary school children are at high risk of PV infection due to physical activities that trigger excessive sweating and suboptimal personal hygiene practices. This study aims to analyze the relationship between personal hygiene behavior and the incidence of PV in elementary school children in Waringinkurung District, Serang Regency. Methods: The study was conducted quantitatively with observational analytical methods and a cross-sectional approach to 54 students from two elementary schools in Waringinkurung District who were selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through personal hygiene questionnaires and Wood's lamp examinations for PV diagnosis. The data were then tested using the Chi-Square test. Results: 37% of children had poor personal hygiene and 25.9% were diagnosed with PV. Chi-square analysis showed a significant relationship between personal hygiene and PV incidence (p = 0.002). Conclusion: The proportion of children with poor personal hygiene was 37%, while the proportion of children with PV was 25.9%. There is a relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of PV in elementary school children in Waringinkurung District, Serang Regency
