Abstract
Validating the Role of Problem-Based Learning Models on Cognitive Load in Solving Complex Mathematical Problems. This study aims to validate the role of Problem-Based Learning (EPBL) on students' cognitive load in solving complex mathematical problems and the impact of implementing EPBL on student learning. This study used a mixed methods approach. The research design was concurrent triangulation. The subjects used in this study were one class of 8 at SMP Negeri 14 Serang City with a total of 36 students. Quantitative data processing used paired t-test statistical calculations, while qualitative data processing used a case study and interview approach. Interview data processing used thematic analysis. The results showed that (1) there was an increase in student abilities, with an average difference of 28.89. (2) the implementation of EPBL was able to reduce students' cognitive load in solving complex mathematical problems based on the results of the cognitive load questionnaire average comparison, with a difference of 33.25. These two results were confirmed by the qualitative data processing results: (3) EPBL is able to reduce cognitive load and optimize understanding for students and create a comfortable learning environment in the classroom.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memvalidasi peran EPBL terhadap beban kognitif siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika kompleks. Serta pengaruh yang ditimbulkan dalam penerapan EPBL terhadap siswa dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode mixed method. Dengan desain penelitian adalah concurrent tringulaition design. Subjek yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah satu kelas 8 di SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang dengan jumlah 36 siswa. Pengolahan data kuantitatif menggunakan perhitungan statistik uji-t berpasangan, untuk data kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus dan wawancara. Adapun untuk pengolahan data hasil wawancara yaitu dengan menggunakan metode analisis tema. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) terdapat peningkatan kemampuan siswa, dengan selisih rata-rata sebesar 28.89. (2) penerapan EPBL mampu menurunkan beban kognitif yang digunakan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika kompleks berdasarkan hasil perandingan ratarata pada angket beban kognitif, selisih penurunan ini sebesar 33.25. Kedua hasil tersebut terkonfirmasi oleh hasil pengolahan data kualitatif adalah (3) EPBL mampu menurunkan beban kognitif serta mengoptimalkan perannya untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada siswa dan menciptakan kenyamanan belajar dalam kelas. | |||||||||
