Abstract

Introduction Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases but can be controlled through improved knowledge and adherence to complication prevention. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge, adherence, and controlled hypertension among patients at Taktakan Public Health Center, Serang City. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted with 83 hypertensive patients selected via consecutive sampling. Data were collected from medical records (blood pressure measurements from the last three months), the Hypertension Knowledge Level Scale (HK-LS), and an adherence questionnaire adapted from Vestabilivy and Rukayah (2014). Data analysis was performed using chi-square tests and odds ratios. Ethical approval was obtained. Result Most patients had uncontrolled hypertension (71.1%), low to moderate knowledge (79.5%), and poor adherence (65.1%). Knowledge (p = 0.018) and adherence (p < 0.001) were significantly associated with controlled hypertension. Conclusion Knowledge and adherence are key to hypertension control. Continuous education and patient-centered approaches are essential to improve adherence and reduce complications.
