Abstract
Pronunciation and speaking skills are persistent challenges for EFL learners, especially in Indonesian junior high schools. Addressing this gap, this research is intended to investigates the combined use of Google Translate and storytelling technique to enhance the pronunciation and speaking skills using classroom action research of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Majasari. The study was conducted in two cycles across eight meetings. The intervention focused on using Google Translate’s text-to-speech (TTS) feature for pronunciation drills and storytelling performances using narrative texts to improve fluency and expression. Data were collected through pre-tests, observation checklists, field notes, and post-tests and were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. In Cycle I, Google Translate significantly helped students improve phoneme articulation and word stress, with average scores increasing from 5.09 (Poor) to 7.34 (Fair). However, students still struggled with fluency and expressiveness. In Cycle II, storytelling activities effectively enhanced students’ intonation, rhythm, and speaking confidence, leading to an increase in post-test scores to 16.25 out of 25 (Maximum Score), where most students achieved a “Good category” performance. This study recommends integrating Google Translate and storytelling to improve pronunciation and speaking skills in EFL classrooms.

| Additional Information: | Keterampilan pelafalan dan berbicara merupakan tantangan yang berat bagi pembelajar Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing (EFL), terutama di tingkat SMP di Indonesia. Untuk menjawab kesenjangan ini, penelitian ini menyelidiki penggunaan gabungan Google Translate dan teknik bercerita untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pelafalan dan berbicara siswa menggunakan tindakan kelas pada kelas VIII di SMPN 1 Majasari. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus selama delapan pertemuan. Intervensi difokuskan pada penggunaan fitur text-to-speech (TTS) dari Google Translate untuk latihan pelafalan serta penampilan bercerita menggunakan teks naratif guna meningkatkan kefasihan dan ekspresi. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test, lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan post-test, yang dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Pada Siklus I, Google Translate secara signifikan membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan artikulasi fonem dan tekanan kata, dengan skor rata-rata meningkat dari 5,09 (Kurang) menjadi 7,34 (Cukup). Namun, siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam kefasihan dan ekspresi berbicara. Pada Siklus II, aktivitas bercerita secara efektif meningkatkan intonasi, ritme, dan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berbicara, yang mengarah pada peningkatan skor post-test menjadi 16,25 dari total skor maksimum 25, di mana sebagian besar siswa mencapai kategori 'Baik'.
