Abstract

Soil insects play an important role in maintaining soil fertility and structure through the process of decomposition of organic matter, which is closely related to soil respiration as an indicator of soil biological activity. This research aims to measure soil insect diversity, soil respiration values, and the relationship between the two on oil palm land with different planting year at PTPN IV Kebun Cikasungka. The research was carried out descriptively-quantitatively at three planting ages (2001, 2005, and 2009) using exploratory and purposive sampling methods. Insect data was collected using pitfall trap, then identified and analyzed for diversity indices. Soil respiration was measured through analysis of CO₂ decomposition results. The research results showed that the composition of soil insects was the highest in the 2001 planting year. The highest diversity index was in the medium category in the 2009 planting year. The highest dominance index value in the 2001 planting year was in the medium category. The highest C-organic and C/N values were in the 2001 planting year. The highest soil respiration and N-total values were in 2005. The highest pH values were in the 2009 planting year (6,5). The correlation values of each soil fauna with chemical properties and soil respiration showed positive and negative correlations. Soil insects obtained from the research location have roles that are divided into 4 roles, namely predators, herbivores, detritivores, and pest.

Additional Information: Serangga tanah berperan penting dalam menjaga kesuburan dan struktur tanah melalui proses dekomposisi bahan organik yang erat kaitannya dengan respirasi tanah sebagai indikator aktivitas biologi tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur keanekaragaman serangga tanah, nilai respirasi tanah, dan hubungan keduanya pada lahan kelapa sawit dengan tahun tanam berbeda di PTPN IV Kebun Cikasungka. Penelitian dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif pada tiga umur tanam (2001, 2005, dan 2009) dengan metode eksploratif dan purposive sampling. Data serangga dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan pitfall trap, kemudian diidentifikasi dan dianalisis indeks keanekaragamannya. Respirasi tanah diukur melalui analisis hasil dekomposisi CO2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi serangga tanah tertinggi pada tahun tanam 2001. Indeks keanekaragaman tertinggi berada pada kategori sedang pada tahun tanam 2009. Nilai indeks dominansi tertinggi pada tahun tanam 2001 berada pada kategori sedang. Nilai C-organik dan C/N tertinggi terdapat pada tahun tanam 2001. Nilai respirasi tanah dan N-total tertinggi terdapat pada tahun 2005. Nilai dengan pH tertinggi terdapat pada tahun tanam 2009 (6,5). Nilai korelasi masing-masing fauna tanah dengan sifat kimia dan respirasi tanah menunjukkan korelasi positif dan negatif. Serangga tanah yang diperoleh dari lokasi penelitian memiliki peran yang terbagi menjadi 4 peran, yaitu predator, herbivor, detritivor, dan hama.
