Abstract
Mathematics learning requires problem-solving skills, however, many students encounter difficulties due to low prior knowledge, high cognitive load, and a lack of learning motivation. Therefore, it is important to examine the interaction among prior knowledge, worked-example, and task difficulty on students’ learning outcomes and cognitive load, as well as the relationship between motivation and cognitive load. This study is a quantitative research using a three-way anova to analyze the interaction among prior knowledge, worked-example, and task difficulty by posttest and cognitive load, and a correlation test to examine the relationship between cognitive load and motivation. The study was conducted in District of Serang. The results showed no interaction among prior knowledge, worked-example, and task difficulty by posttest and cognitive load. However, there were significant differences between students with low and high prior knowledge in terms of posttest, extraneous cognitive load, and germane cognitive load. The study also found interactions between prior knowledge and worked-example, and between prior knowledge and task difficulty by posttest, but not on cognitive load. In addition, there were significant relationships between components of cognitive load (intrinsic, extraneous, and germane cognitive load) and components of motivation (anxiety, probability of success, interest, and challenge).

Additional Information: | Pembelajaran matematika menuntut kemampuan pemecahan masalah, namun banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan akibat rendahnya kemampuan awal, beban kognitif tinggi, dan kurangnya motivasi belajar. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengetahui interaksi kemampuan awal, worked-example, dan tingkat kesulitan tugas terhadap hasil belajar siswa dan beban kognitif serta hubungan motivasi dengan beban kognitif. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode penelitian uji anova tiga jalur, dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui interaksi antara kemampuan awal, worked-example, dan tingkat kesulitan tugas terhadap hasil belajar dan beban kognitif dan uji korelasi untuk mengetahui hubungan beban kognitif dengan motivasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 1 Jawilan dan SMAN 1 Cikande, Kabupaten Serang. Hasil penelitian menunjukan tidak terdapat interaksi antara kemampuan awal, worked-example, dan tingkat kesulitan tugas terhadap hasil belajar dan beban kognitif. Namun terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara siswa dengan kemampuan awal rendah dan tinggi terhadap hasil belajar, extraneous cognitive load, dan germane cognitive load. Ditemukan juga interkasi antara kemampuan awal dan worked-example terhadap hasil belajar, namun tidak terhadap beban kognitif. Selain itu ditemukan juga interaksi antara kemampuan awal dan tingkat kesulitan tugas terhadap hasil belajar, namun tidak terhadap beban kognitif. Kemudian terdapat hubungan signifikan antara komponen beban kognitif (intrinsic cognitive load, extraneous cognitive load¸dan germane cognitive load) dengan komponen motivasi (kecemasan, peluang keberhasilan, minat dan tantangan). | |||||||||
