Abstract
Market demand for Spirulina biomass is projected to increase by 10.5% by 2026. To meet this surge, production efficiency, particularly in the harvesting stage, must be enhanced. This study compares the efficiency of conventional harvesting (filtration) with electrocoagulation-flotation (ECF), which aggregates spirulina biomass using electric current, thereby minimizing loss due to inefficient filtration. Treatments included conventional filtration (K) and ECF with electrode surface-area variations: A1 (3 × 10 cm), A2 (5 × 10 cm) and A3 (7 × 10 cm) at a constant voltage of 3.5 V. Evaluated parameters included harvesting rate; wet biomass yield; ash content; water quality; iron (Fe) content; phycocyanin yield and electrode corrosion rate. The highest yield was obtained with treatment A2, namely 16,21±1.28 g—nearly double that of filtration (8,02±0.42 g). ECF proved faster and more efficient for industrial-scale harvesting, although filtration exhibited superior ash content and water quality. These findings indicate that ECF, with optimized electrode surface area, represents a promising sustainable alternative for large-scale spirulina biomass harvesting.

Untuk memenuhi lonjakan ini, efisiensi produksi, khususnya pada tahap pemanenan, harus ditingkatkan. Studi ini membandingkan efisiensi pemanenan konvensional (filtrasi) dengan elektrokoagulasi-flotasi (ECF), yang menggumpalkan biomassa Spirulina menggunakan arus listrik sehingga meminimalkan kehilangan akibat filtrasi yang tidak efisien. Perlakuan yang diterapkan meliputi filtrasi konvensional (K) dan ECF dengan variasi luas permukaan elektroda: A1 (3×10 cm), A2 (5×10 cm), dan A3 (7×10 cm) pada tegangan konstan 3,5 V. Parameter yang dievaluasi meliputi laju panen, hasil biomassa basah, kadar abu, kualitas air, kandungan besi (Fe), hasil fikosianin, dan laju korosi elektroda. Hasil tertinggi diperoleh dengan perlakuan A2, yaitu 16,21±1,28 g hampir dua kali lipat dari filtrasi (8,02±0,42 g). ECF terbukti lebih cepat dan efisien untuk pemanenan skala industri, meskipun filtrasi menunjukkan kadar abu dan kualitas air yang lebih baik. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa ECF, dengan luas permukaan elektroda yang dioptimalkan, merupakan alternatif berkelanjutan yang menjanjikan untuk pemanenan biomassa Spirulina skala besar. | |||||||||
