Abstract

The Steinberg Method is a structured instructional approach that progresses from simple to complex, beginning with word recognition, followed by phrases or sentences, and culminating in reading and comprehending texts. This study aims to: (1) examine students’ early reading profiles, (2) design an early reading instruction model using the Steinberg Method supported by Canva media, (3) analyze students’ responses to the use of Canva media, and (4) assess teachers’ responses to the early reading model implemented through the Steinberg Method with Canva media assistance. This research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the Dick, Carey, and Carey model. The findings indicate that: (1) the development of the early reading model using the Steinberg Method and Canva media follows ten systematic stages: needs assessment, learner and context analysis, goal specification, instrument development, instructional strategy development, material selection, formative evaluation, program revision, and summative evaluation. (2) The majority of students responded positively to the Canva-based early reading media. (3) Teachers evaluated the instructional model developed through the Steinberg Method with Canva media as feasible and appropriate for use in early reading instruction at the elementary school level.

Additional Information: Metode Steinberg merupakan metode pembelajaran yang dimulai dari hal sederhana ke kompleks, yaitu dari pengenalan kata, kemudian frase atau kalimat, hingga membaca wacana dan memahaminya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui profil pembelajaran membaca permulaan siswa, (2) merancang metode Steinberg berbantuan Media Canva untuk pembelajaran membaca permulaan, (3) mengetahui respons siswa terhadap media pembelajaran menggunakan Media Canva, dan (4) mengetahui respons guru terhadap model pembelajaran membaca permulaan melalui Metode Steinberg berbantuan Media Canva. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) berdasarkan skema Dick, Carey, and Carey. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) pengembangan model membaca permulaan melalui metode Steinberg dan Media Canva dilakukan melalui 10 tahapan, yaitu: identifikasi kebutuhan, pengembangan, analisis pembelajar dan konteks, penjabaran sasaran kemampuan, pengembangan instrumen, strategi pembelajaran, pemilihan bahan ajar, evaluasi formatif, revisi, dan evaluasi sumatif. (2) Respons siswa terhadap media pembelajaran membaca permulaan dengan Media Canva mayoritas positif. (3) Respons guru terhadap produk pembelajaran membaca dengan metode Steinberg berbantuan Canva dinilai layak dan sesuai untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran membaca permulaan di sekolah dasar.
