Abstract
Tin (Sn) is a widely used metal in various industries, but its processing generates wastewater that pollutes the environment. One method to reduce tin levels in liquid waste is electrodeposition, an electrochemical process that deposits metal ions onto an electrode using direct electric current. This research is highly relevant for the metal processing and electroplating industries, which produce wastewater containing tin ions from their plating processes. This study aims to determine the effect of voltage and acid concentration on the efficiency of tin deposition using the electrodeposition method. Synthetic tin waste was prepared by dissolving Sn in a 0.01 M HCl solution. The electrodeposition process was conducted using a carbon felt cathode and a titanium-platinum anode. The results show that increasing the voltage up to 7.3 Volts increased the deposited Sn mass to 0.4861 grams, with an electrodeposition efficiency reaching 45%. However, efficiency does not always increase linearly due to side reactions, such as the formation of H₂ gas. Additionally, an increase in acid concentration decreased efficiency because of the conversion of Sn²⁺ to Sn⁴⁺, which is difficult to reduce. The optimum voltage was found to be 4.8 Volts, achieving an efficiency of 31%. This research indicates that electrodeposition is effective for reducing tin content in liquid waste when appropriate operating parameters are selected.

Additional Information: | Timah (Sn) merupakan logam yang banyak digunakan di industri, namun proses pengolahannya menghasilkan limbah yang mencemari lingkungan. Salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan untuk mengurangi kadar timah dalam limbah cair adalah elektrodeposisi, yaitu proses elektrokimia yang mengendapkan ion logam ke elektroda dengan menggunakan arus listrik searah. Penelitian ini sangat relevan bagi industri pengolahan logam dan elektroplating, yang menghasilkan limbah cair mengandung ion timah dari proses pelapisan logam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh tegangan dan konsentrasi asam terhadap efisiensi pengendapan timah menggunakan metode elektrodeposisi. Limbah timah sintetik dibuat dengan melarutkan Sn dalam larutan HCl 0,01 M, dan proses elektrodeposisi dilakukan menggunakan katoda carbon felt dan anoda titanium platinum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan tegangan hingga 7,3 Volt meningkatkan massa Sn yang terdeposit hingga 0,4861 gram dan efisiensi elektrodeposisi mencapai 45%. Namun, efisiensi tidak selalu meningkat secara linier karena adanya reaksi samping seperti pembentukan gas H₂. Selain itu, peningkatan konsentrasi asam menurunkan efisiensi karena konversi Sn²⁺ menjadi Sn⁴⁺ yang sulit tereduksi. Tegangan optimum tercapai pada 4,8 Volt dengan efisiensi 31%. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa elektrodeposisi efektif untuk mengurangi kandungan timah dalam limbah cair dengan pemilihan parameter operasi yang tepat. | ||||||
